Slow down, look closely and find the words for the world around you in this relaxed poetry workshop with poet Monica de la Haye.

Monica lives near Johnshaven and writes poems inspired by nature, place and the sharp, surprising observations children make about the world. She believes passionately in the power of poetry to help us look and listen more carefully, to the landscape, to each other, and to what is changing around us.

In this workshop, participants will take inspiration from films screening at LandxSea Film Fest 2026. Through gentle prompts and creative exercises, Monica will guide you towards your own poems, whether you are an experienced writer or have never written poetry before.

No prior experience is needed. Please bring something to write with, and your curiosity.

About Monica de la Haye

Monica de la Haye is a poet based near Johnshaven. Her work has been published in various magazines, and she recently created a community poem for the Sea Change Project in Montrose, exploring the impact of coastal erosion on the town.

All Workshop Tickets are £5

We want our PoP Shop workshops to be affordable, welcoming, and open to as many people as possible. Every place is subsidised through donations and festival fundraising, and your £5 ticket helps us cover the real costs of running the session, including the tutor, space, and materials.

Spaces are very limited, with most workshops only able to welcome 10–20 people. Please only book if you are confident you can attend. If something changes, let us know as soon as possible so we can pass your place on.
