How do we learn to think with the Earth?

Glenda Rome’s debut feature journeys through Scotland’s coastlines, forests, islands and ancient rock formations in search of geopoetics: the philosophy developed by Scottish poet-thinker Kenneth White, connecting language, landscape, geology and the living world. Through artists, writers and geologists shaped by White’s work, the film becomes less a biography than a quiet act of attention.

Alongside White’s legacy, Expressing the Earth explores the discoveries of James Hutton, the Scottish geologist whose theories of deep time transformed how we understand the planet’s history. In 2026, the 300th anniversary of Hutton’s birth, that perspective feels especially resonant: a reminder that human lives unfold within vast, ancient, living systems.

Glenda Rome is a Scottish filmmaker whose work bridges art, environmental and human connection. For over two decades she's worked internationally on documentaries and community projects - collaborating with Indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian rainforest and Iñupiat people in Alaska, and helping young and underrepresented voices tell their own stories on film. Now based near Edinburgh, her debut feature Expressing the Earth turns her lens inward: a poetic exploration of Scotland's landscapes, geopoetics, and the living relationship between people and place.

With Short Film: Paradise

Scottish Premiere. Shot on 16mm and interwoven with Mol Benge’s hand-painted animation, Iso Attrill’s first film is a tender, poetic portrait of a trans/non-binary artist and gardener cultivating a life in close relationship with the natural world.

Iso Attrill is a filmmaker creating playful, short-form work for clients across TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, etc. including for Netflix, Atmos Magazine, Dr. Martens and Linden Staub, alongside short fiction and documentary films exploring environmental issues and community building. These projects run through SparkBoom Productions, the full-service company they co-run with Colton Kempf. Iso studied at UAL's Camberwell College of Arts and the National Film and Television School under a BFI Scholarship, and now teaches as an Associate Lecturer at UAL's Lime Grove. They're a proud member of Trans+ On-Screen.
