Welcome to Scotland's Environmental Film Festival

Founded in 2023, Montrose LandxSea Film Festival is Scotland’s dedicated environmental film festival, held annually in Montrose, a coastal town in Northeast Scotland.

At the heart of our programming is the deep connection between land and sea, featuring a diverse selection of films that explore the changing environment and our place within it.

Every September, the LandxSea Festival brings together ground-breaking climate-focused films, inspiring guest speakers, and thought-provoking discussions. The 3rd Annual Montrose LandxSea Film Festival will take place 12-14 September 2025.

In April 2025, we launched LandxSea Monthly, a year-round film series at the Montrose Playhouse showcasing bold environmental storytelling from around the world, including exclusive previews and festival highlights. Next Up: A New Kind of Wilderness – 1 May at Montrose Playhouse.

Our festival home is the Montrose Playhouse, a community-owned, state-of-the-art cinema and arts venue which opened in 2021.

Following its acclaimed Scottish Premiere at Glasgow Film Festival, this gripping, folk horror-inflected drama from director Athina Rachel Tsangari (Chevalier, Attenberg) is a striking portrait of land, power, and displacement—themes that resonate deeply in today’s ecological crisis.
