Our volunteers help make LandxSea happen. They welcome audiences, support filmmakers and guests, help events run smoothly and create the warm, community-centred atmosphere that makes the festival special.
Whether you live in Montrose, are travelling to the festival for the weekend or would like to support our work throughout the year, there are many ways to take part.
You do not need previous festival or film experience. What matters most is enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to work as part of a friendly team.

Everyone Has Something to Offer
We welcome volunteers from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and experiences. Some roles may have minimum-age or safeguarding requirements, but we will always try to match people with opportunities that suit their interests, availability and access needs.
You can volunteer for a few hours, several shifts across the festival weekend or become involved in our work throughout the year.
Current Opportunities for 2026
We are currently looking for volunteers to help us during August and at the festival in September.
PoP Shop Preview Week
17–21 August · Montrose High Street
Help set up workshops, welcome attendees, talk to visitors about the festival and support our team with practical tasks.
We particularly need help on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 August, between 10am and 4pm. You can volunteer for all or part of either day, and extra help on other days is also welcome.
Join Our Street Team
Flexible dates and times
Help spread the word by distributing festival posters, postcards and programmes in Montrose and surrounding towns.
This flexible role could include visiting local shops, cafés, libraries, community spaces and noticeboards whenever it suits you.
Festival Set-up Team
Friday 11 September · Montrose Playhouse
Help us transform the Playhouse by installing decorations, moving and draping tables, displaying signs and posters and preparing information points and festival materials.
Some tasks may involve lifting or reaching, but there will also be plenty of lighter jobs available.
Festival Weekend Crew
11–13 September · Montrose Playhouse
Welcome audiences, support queues and audience flow, distribute voting slips, carry microphones during Q&As, reset spaces and help our House Manager and core team keep events running smoothly.
We are particularly looking for a small crew of reliable volunteers who can commit to several shifts across the weekend.
Please note: Festival-weekend volunteer places are limited. We generally need only one or two additional volunteers per screening alongside our core team, so we may not be able to offer shifts to everyone who applies.
Festival Volunteer Roles
Roles vary from year to year, but opportunities may include:
Front of House
Welcoming audiences, checking tickets, helping people find their seats and supporting the smooth running of screenings and events.
Guest and Artist Support
Helping filmmakers, speakers and artists with arrivals, hospitality, directions and practical support during their visit.
Community Events
Supporting workshops, family activities, pop-up events, the Montrose Beach Dook and other creative happenings beyond the cinema screen.
Communications
Capturing photographs, short videos, audience reactions and social media moments that help tell the story of the festival.
Sustainability and Access
Helping us reduce waste, support recycling and make festival spaces welcoming, accessible and comfortable for audiences.
Venue Set-up
Helping prepare festival spaces with signage, information displays, decorations and other thoughtful finishing touches.
Audience Awards
Handing out and collecting voting slips and helping audiences choose their favourite films of the festival.
Other Ways to Volunteer
Host a Visiting Filmmaker
If you live in or near Montrose and have a suitable spare room, you may be able to help by offering accommodation to a visiting filmmaker, speaker or artist during the festival.
Join the Film Screening & Selection Team
Our volunteer Film Screening & Selection Team works behind the scenes to watch and assess the many film submissions we receive each year. It is a rewarding opportunity to discover new environmental cinema, contribute to the festival programme and develop critical film appreciation skills.
Screening takes place annually from March to June, with films watched independently online and team discussions held remotely. Members should be able to commit to viewing and assessing an agreed number of films during this period.
Become a Trustee
Montrose LandxSea Film Festival SCIO is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees and supported by people who contribute skills and experience through our Advisory Board.
What You’ll Get
- A behind-the-scenes view of how the festival comes together.
- The chance to meet visiting filmmakers, artists, environmental organisations and local changemakers.
- Opportunities to build experience, make connections and become part of the LandxSea community.
- Agreed PoP Shop and festival set-up shifts may include a complimentary ticket for a festival screening, subject to availability.
- Volunteers who commit to several shifts as part of our festival weekend crew will receive a LandxSea crew pass, with access to other screenings when they are not on duty and seats are available.
- When volunteering at a screening, crew members may be able to watch the film once their duties are complete and all ticket-holders have been seated. This is offered on a standby basis and cannot be guaranteed.
- Our heartfelt thanks... and probably a few sea-themed surprises.
