LandxSea teamA creative afternoon of zines, comics, animals and environmental imagination.
Suitable for ages 8–14, this hands-on workshop invites young people to make their own zines and comics about animals, nature and how we can care for the world around us.
Using recycled materials, participants will draw, collage and write about ways people can help the environment, from protecting animals and plants to caring for our seas and skies.
You might create your own animal characters, share ideas for planting flowers for bees and butterflies, show people how to clean up litter from our beaches, or explain what to do when you find a sick or injured wild animal.
Make a complete zine or contribute a single page, while collaborating with friends old and new. Participants will also have the option to display their finished work at Montrose Playhouse during LandxSea Film Festival in September.
No previous experience of comics or zine-making is needed — just a passion for creating.

About the Workshop Leader
Catriona Laird
Illustrator, Comic Artist and Zine-Maker
Catriona Laird, also known as Cat, is a Dundee-based illustrator, comic artist and zine-maker. She is a co-founder of CHIP Collective, which campaigns for fair pay for comic artists and encourages people of every age and ability to explore comics through collaboration and creativity.
Her latest solo work is the comic series A Duel of Fools, which received two nominations at the 2025 Selkie Awards and follows two rival jesters competing for the top position in the King’s court.
Workshop Tickets
All PoP Shop workshop tickets are £5.
We want our workshops to be affordable, welcoming and open to as many people as possible. Every place is subsidised through donations and festival fundraising, and your £5 ticket helps cover the tutor, venue and materials.
Spaces are limited, with most workshops able to welcome only 10–20 people. Please book only when you are confident you can attend. When plans change, let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the place to someone else.
Free Places & Access
Free places are available through our Community Ticket Fund. When the workshop cost is a barrier, please contact us — we want these activities to be open to everyone.
