Suitable for ages 8–14, this creative afternoon workshop invites young people to make their own zines and comics about animals, nature and how we can look after the world around us.

Inspired by the much-loved story of Watership Down, the workshop ties in with LandxSea’s screening of the beautifully restored version of the 1978 animated classic, showing as part of LandxSea Film Fest 2026 from 11–13 September.

Using recycled materials, participants will draw, collage and write about ways people can help the environment, from animals and plants to the seas and skies. You might create your own animal characters, share ideas for planting flowers for bees and butterflies, show people how to clean up litter from our beaches, or explain what to do if you find a sick or injured wild animal.

Make a whole zine or just one page, and collaborate with friends old and new. Participants will also have the option to have their finished zines displayed at Montrose Playhouse during LandxSea Film Fest in September.

No prior knowledge of zines is needed, just a passion for making.

About Catriona Laird

Catriona Laird, also known as Cat, is a Dundee-based illustrator, comic artist, zine maker and co-founder of CHIP Collective, which fights for fair pay for comic artists and encourages collaboration and creativity through comics for everyone, no matter their age or ability.

Cat’s latest solo work is a comic series called A Duel of Fools, which was nominated twice for the 2025 Selkie Awards, and centres on two rival jesters vying for the top spot in the King’s court.

All Workshop Tickets are £5

We want our PoP Shop workshops to be affordable, welcoming, and open to as many people as possible. Every place is subsidised through donations and festival fundraising, and your £5 ticket helps us cover the real costs of running the session, including the tutor, space, and materials.

Spaces are very limited, with most workshops only able to welcome 10–20 people. Please only book if you are confident you can attend. If something changes, let us know as soon as possible so we can pass your place on.
