Net-working with a difference! Learn the knots used for making and mending nets, meet new people, and create your own willow fish to haul in.

Join Stewart Troup, Forest School Leader at Sticks and Stones Forest School in Pitgarvie Woods near Luthermuir, for a hands-on workshop inspired by the skills and stories of life at sea. A former skipper, Stewart will share his knowledge of traditional net-making and mending techniques, alongside stories from his time working in the North Sea.

After the workshop, the nets and the willow fish — simple fish shapes woven from willow branches — will be displayed at Montrose Playhouse during LandxSea Film Fest 2026, taking place 11–13 September, and can be taken home afterwards.

We want our PoP Shop workshops to be affordable, welcoming, and open to as many people as possible. Every place is subsidised through donations and festival fundraising, and your £5 ticket helps us cover the real costs of running the session, including the tutor, space, and materials.

Spaces are very limited, with most workshops only able to welcome 10–20 people. Please only book if you are confident you can attend. If something changes, let us know as soon as possible so we can pass your place on.
