This summer, for the first time, we're popping up at PoP Shop Montrose for a week of exciting activities and preview events for all ages, offering locals a taste of LandxSea Film Festival ahead of our September programme!
From 16–22 August, we’re taking over PoP Shop on Montrose High Street with a lively week of film-inspired workshops, talks, drop-ins and beach activities for children, teenagers and adults.

Just a few of the creatives and activities at our first PoP Shop takeover!
Make a Watership Down zine, animate your own mini-film, compose and record a soundtrack, weave a willow fish, turn driftwood into art, write poetry, learn about open-water swimming, and help create artworks and decorations that will reappear at the festival in September.
Every event connects to a film, theme or gathering in this year’s programme. Think of it as a chance to step inside LandxSea before the cinema doors even open.
You don’t need to book a workshop to join us. Drop in, pick up the brand-new festival programme, watch trailers, meet members of the LandxSea team and let us help you discover what to see and do this September. You can also find out about Schools at the Festival programme, our Montrose Beach Dook and ways to get involved with the festival.
Activities include:
- Driftwood art and pottery workshops
- Poetry-writing
- A talk on the joys of open water swimming
- A chance to compose a film soundtrack with a local musician
- Eco games night
- Animation workshops
- Leaf-bunting workshops
- Events at Montrose Beach
...and much more!

Stop-motion animation workshop with Sandie Jamieson, part of our week-long programme!
Workshops take place throughout the week, with something for complete beginners as well as experienced makers. Places are deliberately small, so early booking is recommended.
All of our workshop places are subsidised through donations and festival fundraising, and we aim to keep our ticket prices as accessible as possible. As a small charity, we're charging £5 for each workshop ticket, which helps us cover the cost of the tutor, venue, and materials.
