Access & Inclusion at LandxSea

LandxSea Is for Everyone

We’re building a festival that welcomes you, whatever your age, background or access needs. We know we’re still learning, and we’re committed to growing with care.

Whether you’re joining us for one screening or the whole weekend, we want your LandxSea experience to feel straightforward, comfortable and welcoming.

SUBTITLES, CAPTIONS & HEARING SUPPORT

International-language films are shown with English subtitles, and films with additional captioning for d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences will be clearly identified on our website and box-office listings.

Live Captioning

Live captioning — also known as CART, or Communication Access Realtime Translation — is provided for festival introductions, post-film Q&As and in-conversation events.

A trained captioner produces real-time text on screen. To request seating with an optimal view of the captions, please speak to a member of the front-of-house team when you arrive.

Hearing loops are available at Montrose Playhouse. Please ask the box-office or front-of-house team for assistance.

Our Progress in 2025

  • Every festival film screening was subtitled.
  • Live captioning was introduced across all festival talks, Q&As and in-conversation events.

We are continuing to explore relaxed events for autistic and neurodivergent audiences, and for anyone who prefers a gentler cinema environment.

QUIET SPACES & FRIENDLY FACES

Festivals can sometimes feel busy or overwhelming, and that’s okay.

Our team and volunteers are here to help. To find a quieter place to pause, decompress or speak with someone, please ask a member of the LandxSea or Montrose Playhouse team.

FREE COMMUNITY TICKETS

We believe cinema should be for everyone.

When cost is a barrier, free community tickets are available with no questions asked. Select the free-ticket option online, call the Playhouse or speak to the box-office team.

We also provide free admission for carers and essential companions.

Our Progress in 2025

  • 52 free tickets were provided through our Community Ticket Fund to young people, schools, community partners and people facing financial barriers.
  • 25% of festival events were free, including community workshops, author talks, screen printing and the Montrose Beach Dook.
