Your pass includes one ticket for each of the festival's ten screenings, including Opening Night. After purchasing it, you must reserve your seat for each screening online, by phone or at the box office. There is no additional charge.

Supporter Passes offer the same admission as Standard Passes, with the additional contribution helping LandxSea provide free tickets for young people and anyone facing financial barriers.

Please note: Admission remains subject to seat availability, so early reservation is recommended.

Free Community Tickets

We believe cinema should be for everyone.

If the cost of attending is a barrier, free Community Tickets are available. Simply choose the Community Ticket option when booking online, call the Playhouse or speak to the box office team — no explanation needed.

Festival tickets are also free for carers/essential companions, and everyone aged 18 and under, subject to each film’s age rating and ticket availability.

TICKET & PASS DETAILS

Before You Arrive

  • Tickets: Individual tickets can be printed at home, scanned from your phone or collected from the box office.
  • Weekend Passes: After purchasing a LandxSea Weekend Pass, please reserve your seat for each screening online, by phone, or at the box office. Your pass covers the cost of all ten screenings, including Opening Night.
  • Box office: The festival box office opens 30 minutes before the first screening each day.
  • Doors: Cinema doors normally open 15 minutes before each screening.
  • Punctual starts: Films begin at the published time, with no adverts or commercial trailers.
  • Guest events: Most screenings include an introduction, live Q&A or conversation. Filmmaker and guest attendance is not guaranteed.
  • Montrose Playhouse One Pass: LandxSea Festival screenings are not included with Montrose Playhouse memberships. A separate festival ticket or LandxSea Weekend Pass is required.
  • Final sales: Tickets and Weekend Passes are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged or replaced. If you're unable to attend, the value of your purchase helps support the year-round charitable work of both LandxSea Film Festival and the Montrose Playhouse. Thank you.

Q&As, Conversations & Community

Most films are followed by live Q&As or community conversations with filmmakers, artists, scientists and local changemakers.

The programme also includes free community events, workshops, artist talks, the Montrose Beach Dook and other activities beyond the cinema screen.

OUR VENUE

Montrose Playhouse: Cinema & Arts Centre

Our festival home is the Montrose Playhouse, a community-owned cinema and arts hub transformed from a 1960s swimming pool into a modern, accessible, multi-screen venue.

The Playhouse was a finalist for BIFA’s UK Cinema of the Year in 2025.

  • A friendly café and bar for food, drinks and conversation.

Food & Drink

The Reel Bar at Montrose Playhouse serves coffee, snacks, meals, local drinks and cocktails.

Food and drink can be enjoyed before or after screenings, or inside the cinema.

Montrose sits on Scotland’s north-east coast, between Dundee and Aberdeen. Active and public transport are encouraged wherever possible.

By Bike

Secure bicycle racks are available in the Playhouse car park, and local coastal paths offer scenic approaches to the venue.

By Bus

Local stops are within approximately 150 metres of the venue:

  • North Street: services 9, 30, 30B, 47 and 47A.
  • Mount Avenue: service 52.
  • Regional: Stagecoach X7 between Aberdeen and Dundee.

By Train

Montrose is served by regular rail services from Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with connections from elsewhere in Scotland and the UK. 

Montrose railway station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the cinema. A taxi rank and local bus stops are also available near the station.

Dundee: 35 minutes
Aberdeen: 39 minutes
Perth: 58 minutes
Edinburgh: 1 hour 42 minutes
Stirling: 1 hour 48 minutes
Glasgow: 2 hours
Inverness: 3 hours
London: 6 hours 13 minutes (direct LNER London-Aberdeen route)

By Car

Montrose is on the A92.

The Playhouse has free parking behind the building, accessed from North Street, with additional street parking in the surrounding town centre.
