Montrose LandxSea Film Fest

Announcing the 1st Montrose LandxSea Film Fest Programme!

We're thrilled to share with you the full programme for the inaugural festival, setting sail from 15-17 September at the Montrose Playhouse.

Join us on the maiden voyage of LandxSea, a weekend full of inspiring films and thought-provoking conversations designed to spark a deeper connection with our planet. Over the course of three days, we are proud to present a rich selection of 20 new films with guest speakers, discussions, and special events that explore our intricate relationship with land and sea. These include Scotland's rewilding efforts, global plastic pollution, new North Sea oil & gas exploration, marine wildlife protection, and more.

Our journey begins with the Opening Night UK Premiere of The Golden Thread, launching three days exploring the beauty and complexity of our living planet. By Closing Night, we'll plunge into the depths of the ocean with the UK Premiere of Patrick and the Whale. And the festival is more than just movies - it's a celebration of our environment. Join is for our Eco Fair, beach dook, family activities, and so much more.

Stay tuned, as we continue to add more events and activities. We can't wait to see you at the Montrose Playhouse for this unique celebration of our living planet. Get ready to connect, explore, and be inspired!

The Golden Thread by Nishtha Jain

7:30pm :: Opening Night UK Premiere

Join us for the premiere of Nishtha Jain's mesmerizing documentary, The Golden Thread. Explore Bengal's vanishing jute industry, once linked to Dundee, through the eyes of dedicated workers in century-old mills. Amid striking visuals and rhythmic looms, emerges a plea for sustainability for this eco-friendly alternative to plastic. As mills close and state support wanes, the film captures resilience and pays tribute to a rich history facing uncertainty.

Expected Guest: Director Nishtha Jain

6:30pm :: Opening Night VIP Reception
