Synopsis
Fourteen women set sail on a 3,000-mile journey across the North Pacific to confront the plastic pollution crisis, aiming to transform both their lives and the planet’s future. X Trillion follows the eXXpedition’s all-women crew, led by Emily Penn, as they journey across the North Pacific Ocean. This international crew of 14 scientists, sailors, designers, engineers, and teachers sails through the densest accumulation of ocean plastic on the planet, aiming to make the unseen seen. Battling high seas, storms, and sea sickness, they conduct cutting-edge microplastics research, uncovering the alarming reality of plastic pollution in one of the world’s most remote areas. The film captures moments of discovery, as the crew records an average of half a million pieces of microplastics per square kilometre, revealing the dense soup of tiny particles just beneath the surface. X Trillion is a story of practical and emotional responses to one of the biggest global challenges, filled with life, surprise, and a call to action. It’s a powerful testament to hope and optimism in the fight against plastic pollution.
