Derek vs Derek

Derek vs Derek

Two neighbouring Devon farmers — both called Derek — find themselves on opposite sides of a battle over food, nature and the future of the British countryside.

In rural Devon, two neighbouring farmers — both called Derek — have become unlikely representatives of a much bigger argument about land, food, nature and change.

Derek Banbury runs an intensive dairy farm and sees no reason to stop. Derek Gow has taken a radically different path, transforming his fields into a haven for beavers, wild boar and native species.

What begins as a local feud soon opens out into something richer and more revealing: a portrait of a countryside under pressure, where tradition, livelihoods, biodiversity and belonging are all up for debate.

This is environmental storytelling at its most human: messy, affectionate, argumentative and full of life.
