Exciting News! Due to Popular Demand, We're Adding a Second Screening!

All the way from Shetland, our Opening Night Scottish premiere of Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story has crashed The Montrose Playhouse with a sold-out screening! But dinna fash – to accommodate the overwhelming demand, we've added a second screening of the film at the same time. Now, even more of you can experience this incredible experience on the big screen.

In the remote Scottish Shetlands, a wild otter and a man form an unlikely bond that transforms both their lives.

When a wild otter in desperate need of help washes up on his jetty, Billy, his wife Susan, and their devoted sheepdog Jade find themselves with a unique new member of their family. From National Geographic and Silverback Films, directed by Charlie Hamilton James, Billy & Molly tells the heartwarming story of this unexpected relationship as it blossoms into a profound bond. Shot in 4K, this stunning documentary showcases the wild beauty of the Shetland Isles, featuring orcas, dolphin pods, migratory birds and much more. As Billy and Molly explore their rugged home, Billy gains a deeper appreciation for nature, guided by Molly's playful spirit. The screening will be followed by a live onstage Q&A with the film's protagonists Billy and Susan Mail. The Q&A will be live in Screen 1 and live-streamed to the audience in Screen 3.

Charlie Hamilton JamesAbout the filmmaker: 

Charlie Hamilton James is a world-renowned National Geographic photographer, filmmaker and author known for his captivating work on wildlife and conservation issues. Charlie began his career at 16 working on David Attenborough's Trails of Life before going on to direct and shoot documentaries for clients including National Geographic and the BBC. In 2022 he won the ‘National Geographic Photographer’s Photographer Award’ for his work photographing East Africa’s Serengeti eco-system and other conservation based stories.
