Amongst the 22 stand-out films presented at this year's festival are World Premieres, an Oscar-nominated film, and Emmy Award-winning filmmakers. The festival opens with the Scottish premiere of Charlie Hamilton James’s Shetland-shot Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story, a joyous documentary about the unlikely bond between a wild otter and a man. Closing the festival is the multi-award-winning The Eagle with the Sunlit Eye, Ted Simpson’s account of the dramatic reintroduction of the white-tailed eagle in Britain and the ensuing conflict within Scotland’s rural community.
Alongside feature films, the festival will also celebrate short film talent and offer an iconic red phone box pop-up cinema, a Sunday morning dip with the Montrose Beach Dook, and the LandxSea Eco Fair featuring local eco-friendly initiatives.
For the first time, we are launching the North Light Award, celebrating the best in Scottish environmental filmmaking, with a £500 cash prize. Also new this year is our discount voucher pack – offering 6 tickets for the price of 5.
We can't wait to welcome you to The Montrose Playhouse for an unforgettable weekend of groundbreaking films, inspiring discussions, and impactful climate action.
