About the Award
LandxSea is excited to introduce the North Light Award, an annual accolade that celebrates excellence in independent Scottish filmmaking with a focus on environmental themes. This award, which includes a £500 cash prize, will be decided by a distinguished jury of film and environmental leaders. The North Light Award recognises innovative storytelling and unique perspectives on environmental topics. It is open to filmmakers residing in Scotland or films that significantly feature Scotland.

Meet the 2024 Awards Jury
We are honoured to introduce our esteemed jury for this year's North Light Award:
Lia Furxhi holds a degree in History of Cinema from the University of Turin and has extensive experience as a production manager in independent films. She has been instrumental in organising cultural initiatives, including festivals and the establishment of the Italian Short Film Center. In 2024, Lia took on the role of director at CinemAmbiente - Environmental Film Festival in Turin, where she continues to advocate for environmental storytelling through cinema, merging her passion for film with cultural engagement.
Kate Munro leads the the new Angus Climate Hub for SCCAN (Scottish Communities Climate Action Network) and is dedicated to connecting people, skills, and communities to create positive change. A founding member of Sustainable Kirriemuir and a wildlife filmmaker with over 10 years of experience, Kate is passionate about the power of collective action to tackle global challenges. She focuses on empowering communities to shape a better future in a changing climate.
Paul Sng is a bi-racial British Chinese filmmaker based in Edinburgh and London, known for his focus on individuals challenging the status quo. His acclaimed films, including DISPOSSESSION, POLY STYRENE: I AM A CLICHÉ (winner of BIFA 2021 Best Documentary), and TISH (Sheffield DocFest 2023 Opening Gala), have been broadcast on television and screened internationally. A BAFTA Breakthrough Artist in 2022, Paul is celebrated for his bold, emotionally resonant films that highlight creative storytelling and collaboration.
Award Announcement
The winner of the North Light Award will be announced during the Festival's Closing Night on 15 September.
